Problems with Bq34z100-G1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, BQ34Z100EVM, BQ34110, GPCCHEM, BQ34Z100-G1

Hi,

i try configure a Bq34z100. The Bq34z100 just shows 0% SOC and learning cycle didnt work.

Im using two series cell (Panasonic, LC-CA1215P1, 12 V 15 Ah) and the Bq34z100EVM.

I have following questions:

(1)  I use the chemistry ID of the R121R3P (Panasonic,  12 V 1,2 Ah) would it work with this chemistry ID or where i find the chemestry ID from the LC-CA1215P1?

(2) I changed following configuration:

Desgin Capacity: 15000, Number of series cell: 2, Qmac Cell 0: 15000;
and i disable the VOLSEL and set Voltage Divider to 32000 to Calibrate the Voltage.
The Design Energy should be (15000mAh * 24V) = 360000 but i cant enter the this value.
Did i miss some importaint configuration ?

(3) i try to run the learing cycle "e2e.ti.com/.../300700"
but the learned status never update to 05.

i made a Golden Image before i start the learing cycle.

Regards

Daniel

  • Daniel,

There are a couple of parameter setting problems that are affecting your results. You should correct these and then retry the optimization cycle.

    • Number of Series cell should be 12.
    • Flash update OK Cell Volt should be 1000mV.
    • Cell Terminate Voltage should be set to the cell voltage where you wnat SOC = 0%. This is typically set to 1800mV for PbA cells.

We also have a new device that supports PbA cells and it uses the CEDV gauging algorithm. It is the bq34110.

  • Thank you Tom,

With the new parameter the SOC works fine.

But i have still some problems with the learning cycle.

I follow this introduction but the learned status never update to 05.
The FC bit is always set until the battery is full charged.

Which parameter influence the learning cycle?
Did the learned status change automaticly or did i have to change it ?

    Regards

Problems with updating Qmax in the optimization cycle are usually caused by a poor ChemID match or by not having at least a 90% change in DOD. You can check the ChemID match using our online GPCCHEM tool. You can check the DOD by checking the QMaxDOD in the log data. Divide the numbers by 163.84 to convert them to a percentage and then check to see how much the DOD changes when it updates in the rest period after the discharge.

  • I will try it, if i have time to log a full cycle.(1) Is it a problem if the relax time while logging is more then 2 or 5 hours? (over night?)

    I have some more question:

    (2)  The DSG Flag should be set "1" (green), if the Battery is been discharged .
But if i charge the battery or  relex  the FLAG is set and while discharged it is cleared

    (3) My FC bit is SET if my SOC is under 98% and is cleared if the  battery is full.
Same with BATHI and BATLOW. They set if the voltage is okay and cleared if the Voltage too high or low.

It seems that they work invers. (Green = 1?,  Red = 0?

Could that cause the failed learing cycles?

I use the Evalboard bq34z1xxEVM, bqstudio1.3.52 with this firmware: bq34z100_G1_v0_16_build_17

What is the differenz between the Bq34z100 and the Bq34z100-G1? Did i use worng/old Firmware?

    Attached my srec.

  • Hallo Tom,

How can i create the needed files for the GPCCHEM with Battery Management Studio and EV2300?
I till have issuse with the Learning Cycle.
Did i send the frist IT_Enable before i Dischrage the battery?

    regards
