The TLV733P data sheet only lists typical startup time.

In order to properly tune the sequencing of a power supply, we need to know what the worst case startup time.

I understand that this parameter is not tested during manufacturing, but could we please have some sort of statistical distribution of startup time?

We've also put together a SPICE simulation and have some data there, bit it appears to be optimistic and we are not able to skew the simulation for temperature variation.

Hi S. Dunbar,

Startup time was not a key specification for the device at the time of release as application specific conditions such as capacitance and output voltage can directly impact the startup time. As a result, we did not characterize or test beyond the typical data provided in the datasheet.

I appreciate the response; however, I am no closer to being able to estimate any sort of worst-case start-up time.

I understand that output voltage, output load, actual device current limit, and output capacitance all will play a role here.

I can simulate the typical case, but I need some idea how much margin we need to buffer into the sequencing of the supplies from there.

Can you please give us some more guidance?

OK, let me try one more time:

In the data sheet, there is a MIN spec for the device current limit. Certainly you have characterization data for that parameter.

Please let me know what the statistics are for that spec (i.e. what is typical, and/or the standard deviation).

That will probably give me enough to go on to suggest a limit for startup time, and I'll pad it to be safe.

Hi Steve,

The typical current limit at the tested conditions is 533mA with a standard deviation of 13. Please note that TLV733P has a foldback current limit. The current limit behavior is shown in figures 18-20 of the datasheet.
