TPS54360 - 100% duty cycle

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54360

Dear E2E,

Our customer is looking for buck converter to step down 11.5V-57Vin into 10Vout with 1.5A load current. I found that TPS54360 can support low dropout operation even 100% duty cycle. The datasheet mentioned that "high side MOSFET of the TPS54360 will
operate at 100% duty cycle as long as the BOOT to SW terminal voltage is greater than 2.1V". My question is how to check if BOOT-SW voltage is greater than 2.1V? I mean that how to check if customers condition can work well or not?

BR,

Jason

  • The high side gate drive is supplied by the BOOT voltage (remember the gate drive has to be higher than Vin). When the duty cycle required goes above 100%, the high side FET can remain on until the BOOT charge is exhausted below 2.1 V relative to SW. Then the high side turns off and the BOOT charge is replenished. For you condition, the duty cycle is only 87%. You should never reach that low headroom operating condition.
