BQ2000: BQ2000 Charging from USB

Dear All,

I am planning to use BQ2000 as a charge controller IC to charge three standard rechargeable NiMh AA cell having nominal operating voltage of 1.2V. I would be charging the IC with the USB having 5V and 500mA.

Kindly provide your valuable feedback for the following :

I read in the TI document that BQ2000T should be prefered as compared to BQ2000 due to its full charging termination method. Kindly suggest me which charge controller IC should be used. I have hereby attached the technical document for your reference.
As per our applications, we would be charging three standard AA cell with the USB having 5V and 500mA. Would it be suitable to charge three standard AA cell with BQ2000?

I do not see your attachment. Can you re-attach the battery spec?

In general, if you would like to use the battery pack temperature monitoring function, then you should use bq2000T.

The charging voltage for NiMH battery is 2V/cell. Thus to fully charge three NiMH in seris, you will need >6V at input.

What I would like to see is your battery spec not the app note.

The app note talks about when the load is connected in parallel with the battery, the charger itself is not able to differentiate the current goes to the battery and the current goes to the load. This is common among non-power path chargers.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the difference between BQ2000 and BQ2000T is whether or not you would like to monitor battery pack temperature.

If your application has load connect in parallel with the battery, and you would like to use terminate charge by temperature, then you need the bq2000T

Correction to my previous post. The bq2000 uses the maximum temperature termination method, and the bq2000T uses the rate of temperature rising. If you have a load connect in parallel to the battery, then you should use bq2000T.
