TLC5954 v. LP55281 Driving 12 RGB LEDs

Hi team,

We are looking to drive 12 RGB LEDs and I was wondering what the difference is between using 3 LP55281 devices and 1 TLC5954?

I see that the LP55281 uses I2C control and the TLC5954 uses a serial interface. The TLC5954 looks like the target applications are more for signage while the LP55281 is targeted moreso as an indicator. Can you comment on the differences and the reasons for that?

Hi Akash,

I think TLC5954 is more appropriate to your application, 36 channels required for drive 12 RGB LEDs, one chip of TLC5954 could meet you for its easy controling or setting up the system.

Hi Ryan,

Can you comment on the differences between the two? Are they both able to drive LEDs at a similar strength? What is the meaning of the signage application vs. the indicator application?

Hi Akash,

I am not very familiar to the LP55281, but those two parts are used to different applications. You could refer to their typical application circuit. For LP55281 has Boost DC-DC Converter bulit in could be the bigges difference with TLC5954.

For indicator application, it's more likely used to drive several LEDs.
