BQStudio automatic detection

I have a BQ27742G1 and BQ25890 on the same I2C bus lines. If I defeat BQStudio auto detection by  powering down the target, specifying the BQ25890 device , powering up, and then re-attaching the EV2400, I can talk to the BQ25890 chip correctly. However, if powered up, it goes and detects the BQ27742. Surely there is a way of switching  devices or disabling automatic detection?
