12vdc lead acid SOC monitor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1

Hello,

I've built a small solar power station of 600w with 5kw in 12vdc lead acid batteries. I'm going to keep expanding the system to about 3kW, or more.

My charge controller does SOC monitoring using a proprietary algorithm.

I'm suspicious of the efficiency of the algorithm and would like to use technology that makes the process more hands on and more transparent. I've examined coulomb counting but the chip I would have used, bq74812, is obsolete, and may not have worked with 6-cell 105Ahr lead acid batteries. Any suggestions?

Thanks Jim J.
