BQ76200: BQ76920

Part Number: BQ76920
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ4050, BQ78350-R1, BQ76200, BQ40Z50

Dear All,

I want to make battery pack using LiFePo4 cell Which is in solar application.

Kindly suggest BQ76920 is suitible  for this application.

Regrads,

Sachin

  • Hi Sachin,
Yes the bq76920 monitor may be a suitable component in a LiFePO4 battery, if using 3 to 5 cells. It needs support from a MCU. The bq78350-R1 is a gauge to provide the MCU function, pre-programmed to provide control of the monitor and protection features if it is desirable to configure parameters rather than program all features. The bq76200 high side FET controller is useful to provide high side protection switching to allow ground referenced communication if desired. If you have higher cell counts the bq769x0 monitor family will support up to 15 cells. If you have only 3 or 4 cells and do not need the flexibility of writing your own code you might also consider a gauge with protection included such as the bq4050
  • Dear WM5295,

    Thank you for your reply..

From above reply i had conculed that use of bq76920 requier support form MCU for protection.

Kindly sugeest chip for make battery pack having 4 numbers of cell in series. Which have below metion protection.
    1) Over voltage protection.
    2) Over discharge protection.
    3) Over current protection.
    4) Short circuit protection.
    5) Internal cell balancing.

In short i am looking for stand alone IC or chip for making battery pack using LiFePo4 cells.

    Awaiting your prompt reply..

  • In our current offerings a 4S single chip with balancing will come with a gauge. The bq4050 or bq40z50 should be good choices for 4 cells, each has its advantages. The people on the gas gauge forum are more knowledgable if you have questions on those parts, the input form should guide you to that forum from the part number.
