BQ24158: Did the BQ24158 can to change the precharge current?

Part Number: BQ24158
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24195

Dears,

Did the BQ24158 can to change the precharge current? I have a project need to add the precharge current, but I read the datasheet as if can't to change. Is right or wrong of my understanding?

The BQ24195 is can to chang the precharge current throngh the register, how to realize it? Thanks very much!

  • Hi Jacking,

The bq24158 does not have the same time of precharge current as bq24195 and uses the ISHORT current of 30mA typical for battery voltages less than VSHORT = 2.0V typical. If you want precharge current for battery voltages higher than VSHORT, you can use the input current limit to reduce the charger's total output current.

    Regards,
    Jeff
  • Dear Jeff,

    Thanks a lot your help.

I don't understand the menas "you can use the input current limit to reduce the charger's total output current.", Could you kindly to help explain it? Thanks!

  • Hi Jacking,

Even if you set the charge current for 1A, for example, if the input current is set to 100mA, the IC will only draw 100mA from the power supply and the charge current will be less than 1A. The output current of the buck converter, which will split between charge current and any load that is connected to the battery, will be approximately equal to Iout = VBUS*ILIM*eff/VBAT where ILIM = input current limit setting.
  • Dear Jeff,

    Noted. Thanks very much!
