UA78M05: The UA78M05CKVURG3, +5V regulator, at -30 deg C

Part Number: UA78M05

The UA78M05CKVURG3,  +5V regulator, has been used on some circuits which have a rated temperature range of -30 to +65 deg C. It was recently noticed that this part has a specified operating range of 0 to 125 deg C. Would you be able to tell me what the failure mode and/or specification error would be for this part when operating at -30 deg C?

  • Hello Jack,

Unfortunately, we do not now how, or even if, the part will fail under this condition.
While operating the device at a temperature outside the recommended temperature range may cause the device to fail, it is not guaranteed that it will, so we don't even know for sure if the device would fail and under what condition. Its possible that the device could work, but may not meet the specifications provided in the datasheet, but it is also possible that it could fail.

There is however a UA78M05I version of the device that is available and this device is rated down to -40C, so we would recommend using this device for your application as it has been tested down to -40C.

    Best,
    Michael
