BQ24166: BQ24166 Vsys confirm with CE=0&absent battery

Hi Ti guys,

one of my customer meets a very uncommon question about BQ24166. If we use the Bq24166 with battery absent but charge is active(/CE=0）, what's the result about the voltage in the SYS pin.

Is BQ24166 can support the uncommon usage.

Hi Tony,

Yes, the bq24166 SYS pin regulates to VSYSREG when no battery is attached and /CE=0. The BAT pin will see a square-ish waveform generated by the battery detection circuit.

Hi Jeff, Thanks a lot.

We meet a strange appearance.We use the BQ24166 with no battery attached,when /CE=0 changed to /CE=1(2.9V)in short time, the Vsys drop from 4.2V to 2.8V. We rule out the possibility of inductor and capacitance attached SYS pin.
