BQ40Z60: BQ40Z60 Not Charging

I am using BQ40Z60 IC in 3S1P Combination in my circuit. I have applied Adapter Voltage of 15V for Charging. But the Battery is not charging and also when I measure the Adapter Voltage Vac, its showing as 18.5V instead of 15V in Multimeter and in Battery Management Software. I am doubtful where to suspect whether in ACFET or HIDRV and LODRV.

ACFET gate pin showing 28V on Adapter Power and 0V without Adapter

HIDRV gate pin showing 11.8V on BOTH Adapter Power and with standalone Battery power (11.8V is the Battery Voltage at that time)

LODRV gate pin showing 0.4V on Adapter Power and 0.004V on Battery power respectively.

Kindly help on this issue with a solution

    Hi Ramesh,

    Did you measure the adapter voltage? What is the voltage measured from the 3S1P battery? Are you using our bq40z60EVM or a custom PCB? If you have custom PCB, please share your schematic. The ACFET gate drive voltage is 9-10V above VBAT voltage, which coincides with the 18.5V you're seeing. It''s definitely not coming from the gauge/charger, since it doesn't have boost capability (only buck).

    Hi Lewis,

                     Thanks for your reply. I have measure and its showing 18.5V in Adapter Voltage after connected power to the circuit(But Actual Applied Adapter voltage is 15V only). The ACFET at this time was measured to be 29V.

    The Battery Voltage in 3S1P is having 11.8V. The 3S1P Battery is designed to work in 9V to 12.6V range(Cell voltage ranges from 3V to 4.2V without respect to Cell Balancing). Kindly help with a solution.

    Hi Ramesh,

    What PCB are you using? Custom or bq40z60EVM? Do you have a 15V DC power supply or a different AC adapter you can try? There maybe an issue with your AC adapter. The gauge is protecting the battery from charging because your charging voltage is too high.
