EM1401EVM: Communication between EM1401 and BMSView

Hi,

I am currently trying connect the EM1401EVM to my laptop computer. I have created the DB9 to RJ45 Adapter as shown in the user's guide.

However I am having trouble sourcing the VSCom USB-CAN DB9 recommended in the user's guide.

I want to know what are my options for getting the EM1401 connected to my laptop to use the BMSView GUI software.

Hi Keron,

The BMSView GUI requires the use of the VS-Com USB CAN adapter. Have you tried ordering from the VS-Com distributor local to you?

There are no distributors in my area, however I will try to get one shipped from the US. Another question can it be connected directly to the serial port of a desktop computer?

CAN bus and UART are completely different electrically and protocol-wise. Any CAN adapter can be made to work sending raw CAN commands to control the board, but the BMS View GUI unfortunately only works with the the VS Com adapter.

UPDATE:

I have received the VS-COM adapter and I am trying to set the baudrate to 500Kbps. Am I supposed to modify the regmodify.vbs file that came with the driver CD? If yes then how do I go about doing this?

The regmodify.vbs file only frees up the virtual comm port in Windows to use any baud rate. There's no need to modify it for a specific baud rate.

The EM1401EVM is already set by default to use a 500K baud rate.
