TLV62130: TLV62130 Failures

I am using the TLV62130 in the following circuit to generate +3.3V with a +12V input supply. The current required at +3.3V is about 500mA. I have had 3 TLV62130’s fail after several hours of operation. I have followed the printed circuit board guidelines for thermal dissipation with the bottom ground pad soldered to the PCB ground plane.

Inductor L1 is a Bourns SRN8040-2R2Y. Capacitor C19 is a Kemet T521V226M025ATE060.

Everything looks correct according to the data sheet. Do you have any idea why these parts are failing?

Hi Paul,

could you also share your layout of the TLV62130 as well? It is one of the most important steps.
The schematic looks good except of the input/output capacitor. Like in DS page 16 it is recommended to use low ESR/ESL ceramic capacitors.
Particular the input capacitor needs to provide a low inductance/resistive path to the IC input.
In addition please add an additional 0.1uF capacitor to AVIN as mentioned in the DS.

Hi Paul,

You have to change your layout.
Please use ceramic capacitors for C20, C19 anf follow the layout recommendations in the DS page 30.
You may also have a look in following article which provide more details: www.ti.com/.../slyt614.pdf
