I've applied the chemistry ID 0x440 to a design using an earlier Chemistry Database (probably the Chem data version that gets installed with bqStudio 1.3.52 - Chem ver 4xx)

I recently updated with Chemistry Data 542 (Q4 2016) and notice that the Ra table is different for ID 0x440.

It appears that the OCV/SOC and temperature data for ID 440 is the same for both Chemistry Database versions.

Is there really new data between Chemistry Databases from version to version for a specific ID? If so, Why? 

Which one is more accurate, the earlier Chem data or the 542 data?

    You must have meant that you loaded ChemID 452. The 500 series are set aside for Li-primary cells. ChemID 440 was original characterization for the ANR26650M1-B. There have been three other ChemID characterizations performed on this cell.

    ChemID 440: original release
    ChemID 452: obsolete, There was a problem with this ChemID and you should not use it.
    ChemID 453: Characterized at a special request with a bottom OCV set to 3000 mV.
    ChemID 465: Current recommended release. The OCV table is very close to ChemID 440. The bottom OCV is 2400mV. The cell was characterized, because of a shift in the manufacturing process.

  • Allow me to restate as what you describe is not what I'm doing or dealing with.

    The Chem ID is 440 (An A123 ANR26650M1-B FiFePO4 cell)

    What I see differently for Chem ID 440 is in the Chemistry Updater that TI releases, the Chemistry database version 542 (released in late 2016) has different Ra table values then the earlier database for the 440 cell.

    Also, the GPC tool selected Chem ID 440 as the best for the cell we are using. Are you saying Chem ID 465 may be a better option? (465 may not have been in the database when GPC calculated 440 as the best fit)

    I sorry about the confusion. I checked with the characterization lab and the chemistry data should not change from updater version to updater version for a given device type. The Ra tables may be different for a multi-cell device versus a single cell device due to the way that the data is stored. If you have a couple of srecs that have the different chemistry data, then you can send them to me and I will check the chemistry data to compare the differences. You should probably move to ChemID 465, because it reflects the latest material that is delivered by A123.
