TPS24750EVM-546: TPS24750EVM Rsense dimensioning and latch-off function

Part Number: TPS24750EVM-546
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS24750

Hi People,

I have two questions:

1. TPS24750 (Latch-off): " Data sheet,  9.3.3 FLTb: "The fault is reset when EN is pulled low or VCC falls under UVLO."
Does it mean that Latch-off version can be also restarted/reset by simple disconnection of input power supply?

2. Rsense dimensioning: "Data sheet, 10.2.2.1.1 STEP 1. Choose RSENSE, RSET, and RIMON: " To achieve high efficiency, the power dissipation in RSENSE must be kept to a minimum. A RSENSE of 2 mΩ develops a voltage of 22 mV at the specified peak current limit of 11 A, while dissipating only 200 mW at the rated 10-A current. This represents a 0.17% power loss. "
Is there any special reason for 1W Rsens (R1) in EVM?  (It is 5x safety margin) Regarding power the 0.5W current sense resistor should be quite enough.

BR,

Josko

  • Josko,
Moving this to the load switch forum.
  • Hi Josko,

    Please see my response below.
[1A] Yes, latch-off version can be also reset by input power cycling i.e., simple disconnection of input power supply.

[2A] Lower power rating 0.5W typ would be enough. Since TPS24750 is a circuit breaker with overload timeout device, providing higher power rating sense resistor facilitate the users to test with various overload levels & timeouts. Of-course this also needs small rework for components like CT etc.

    Best Regards,
