LP8758-B0: LP8758-B0 efficiency curve in datasheet

Part Number: LP8758-B0

I have a question about efficiency curve in datasheet figure 26 and 27.
In this curve, efficiency becomes better as the input voltage increases.

Why does the efficiency curve become like this?
Normally efficiency becomes lower as voltage difference between input and output is large.

  • This is pretty easy.  The input voltage for those curves are relatively low voltage.  The input voltage is used for the gate drive for the internal switching FETs.  Higher input voltage means stronger gate drive and lower RDSon.  The efficiency gain from that offsets the switching losses from higher drain to source voltage.
