BQ40Z60: RSNS vs RCHG

Part Number: BQ40Z60

Which among RCHG and RSNS is used to control the charging current ?

I have kept a charging current of 1500mA and my battery gauge is indicating 1600mA (it is slightly fluctuating also), what could be causing this issue? Should I look into RCHG or RSNS to solve this issue ?

  • The charger sense resistor controls the charging current. The coulomb counter sense resistor reports the charging current. You may see fluctuations in the reported current due to noise or imbalances in the grounding system. It you can insert a current meter into the charging path, then you can check to see whether the actual charging current is fluctuating.
  • Now things are clear. Thank You.
  • Dear Thomas,

We are calibrating only the RSNS resistor (coulomb sense resistor) and not the RCHG. So the firmware doesn't really know what is the actual value of RCHG that I have kept in my circuit. In this scenario, isn't the RSNS resistor really controlling the charging current value? With the RCHG acting just for setting the ultimate maximum limit on the current drawn ?
