BQ25120: is it possible to use BQ25120 with switcher turned off?

Part Number: BQ25120

There are some circumstances under which my application uses the LDO/LS to power the target device.  In that case I would like to power down the switcher.

Is this possible?  If not, what current drain can one expect from the switcher if the switcher output has no load?

Thanks

-philip

  • Hello Phillip,

The buck converter is something that can be disabled.
If you look in the third paragraph of Section 9.3.21 it discusses how the EN_SYS_OUT bit which is discussed further in Section 9.6.7 and Table 18.

NOTE: When you use bit to disable to switched the output is pulled to GND. Something to be aware of.
  • Philip,

You could do that on the silicon today but that is not something we recommend.

However, even with the switcher ON, we consume around 700nA to stay in HIZ mode.

Let me know if there is any other reason you are looking to disable the switcher other than power savings.

    thanks,
