BQ34110: Using a chemistry that's not supported with the bq34110

Are these rechargeable (secondary) or primary cells? What kind of accuracy you need? bq34110 was design for rarely discharge applications using Li Ion, LiFePO4, lead-acid (PbA), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), and Nickel Cadmium (NiCd). 

The different chemistries refer to both charge and discharge profiles. You can try using bq34110 with chem ID 0600 and let us know how's the accuracy.

The gauge was not designed to support alkaline cells, but it should be able to gauge them as it uses coulomb counting for gauging. The big issue will be the voltage. We recommend that the REGIN supply be at least 3V and it should not go lower than 2.7V. You could use an external 3.3V regulator, if you have a higher voltage rail available to power the regulator.

Hi Damian,

2 AA alkaline batteries will be used, so it primary cells. We want to monitor them to be more accurate at our approximation of TimeToDischarge().

I didn't know that the bq34110 was designed specifically for this. I thought of the EOS function as a feature that I would just not use. I compared others fuel gauges and this one seemed like the most promising.

Can I create a CEDV profile and add a new chemId using the Gauging Parameter Calculator tool?

REGIN will be supplied 3.3V, whereas VBAT will have the battery voltage, so it's good on this side.
