TPS63000: About the sudden change of PKG temperature and the power dissipation

Part Number: TPS63000

Hello,
I have two question about TPS63000.

(1)
I got the result as below with EVM.
PKG temperature and power dissipation change suddenly.
Is this behavior correct in the characteristic of TPS63000?

(2)
Please teach me the mechanism of behavior (large dissipation -> high PKG temperature -> low DCDC output) when the power dissipation is beyond the permission of TPS63000 and the DCDC output is not normal.

As for the details, please see an attached file.

  • The device seems to be at the limit of its operating condition for Vin=2.4V Vout=5.275 and Iout=460mA. ( Please refer to Figure 1 of the datasheet)
I think the thermal shutdown occurs when you measure 90°C on the PKG. In this case the junction temperature is way higher and has probably reached 140°C, This could explain the drop on the Vout.
Which application requires such operating conditions?
  • Hello Sabrina,
    Thank you for your reply.

    This is confirmation.
Is almost Iout=460mA the upper limit at the condition of Vin=2.4V and Vout=5.275V?

The application is a radio system.
