LM5118: Not able to start up with loading on, at low input less than 5V.

Part Number: LM5118

Hi Team,

I have one automotive customer would need to use LM5118-Q1 in cluster application, for 24V car. Volume higher than 150K pcs /Y.

It requires min input is down to 4V, max input is 48V, and output is 12V/ 2A max.

I check that LM5118 should be able to meet this requirement, based on spec and EVM user guide.

But I modify one EVM, with removing UVLO resister dividers, and connecting Vout to VCCX, I could not make it start up even with just 1.5A, when input is lower than 4.8V. (Currently no other changes.)

Could you help modify one EVM, or guide me the values of ramp cap, or other modifications you made, that could realize this application condition ?

Thanks for your help.

  • Rocson,

The LM5118 requires a minimum input voltage of 5V to start-up. Once that occurs and the VCC voltage is supplied from the output operation is possible down to an input voltage of 3V.

Please contact me directly if you have anymore questions.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
