UCC27211: Soft-Start Motor control

Part Number: UCC27211

Hai,

I am doing a project based on controlling of a 1.5Kw/24v separately excited DC motor using TI gate driver IC in H-bridge configuration.

I want to implement the soft-start condition, because of heavy load. The circuit tested  with  10 milliseconds dead time and each step 5.

It is simply a guess value and I am not sure it is the right value in actual world.

So please suggest a delay time and step .

Regards

Binu

  • Binu,

The soft-start approach will depend a lot on the motor and system requirements. Usually there is a trade-off involving fast ramp-up/down, efficiency, and (sometimes) ergonomics. Furthermore, there might be some requirements when it comes to current/voltage spikes. I suggest picking an initial set of values and to tweak as necessary during prototype testing/validation.

There should be plenty of information on this topic available on the web. On the e2e forums on ti.com, we will gladly go deeper on any matters directly associated with one of our ICs.
