Hi,

We got a question from customer about TPS1H100B-Q1.
Could you help us?

[Question]
Could you let us confirm behavior of short to VBAT under the following condition.

- Condition -
VS=VBAT
OUT=Short to VBAT
State=Internal FET ON and OFF
No block diode

They want to know test results(smoke, fire, burn, explosion, ok, etc). Is there any test data?

Tateo,

There is no damage when VOUT is shorted to VBAT. I would make sure the application doesn't also have the concern of being in a reverse current situation.

I've included the conditions for reverse current for your convenience.
If the VOUT-VS>Vdiode.
1. HSS ON, small power dissipation on HS FET, no risk.
2. HSS OFF, P=Vdiode*Ireverse. The reverse current must be limited.

If the VOUT-VS<Vdiode, no reverse current occur.

Our customer has additional question. If over Irev2 condition is occured, what kind of behavior will the device be?
They want to know test results(smoke, fire, burn, explosion, ok, etc). Is there any test data?

Irev should be kept below a few mA or else the FET will be damaged. This will not be smoke, but the channel will no longer function properly.

How much Irev is the customer expecting?

There should be no concern of failure in any reasonable application, so let's focus on the design constraints.

We think VBAT exists in drain through the body diode. And there is no consern. Is it correct?

That is correct. VBAT will exist in the drain through the body diode. There will be a voltage drop due to the diode itself.
