Dear Sir,

I am going to design a power chain of automotive source and have to avoid AM/FM EMI issue.

my specification would be vin 24V vout 5V/1A.

I 'm thing of two method below,

way 1:

LDO vin 24v to 5V/1A but it needs a big heatsink to tackle thermal issue.

bad effieiency

way 2:

using 2 stage 24v to 5.5v/1A buck

LDO 5.5v to 5V/1A

but the buck switching EMI will affect our AM/FM

do you have any suitable suggestion for this application? Thanks.

Hello,

Due to thermal considerations, regulating from 24V to 5V at 1 A is almost always done with a switching DCDC (buck) regulator. TI has many automotive qualified devices in our buck portfolio. Generally to avoid EMI issues the switching frequency in the 400kHz or 2MHz range are used. Some of these devices also have spread spectrum or other features to further reduce emissions. Using and input filter and optimized PCB layout is also critical. You can use the product section tool www.ti.com at www.ti.com/.../buck-converter-integrated-switch-products to help you select including the maximum input voltage your design will need to withstand, switching frequencies, Q100 qualification, temperature range, etc. One device that seems to be in the range of what you are looking for that I have used on a TI Design is the TPS57160-Q1, but there are many other options available as well.

LMR14020-Q1 may be an option. 4~40V/2A, SOIC-8 package, internal compensation circuit, very easy to use.
