TINA/Spice/LM3017: Output failure

Part Number: LM3017
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hi!
I have a problem with the LM3017. I want to do a Boost DC-DC covnerter with the following specifications:

  • Vin=9,6..15
  • Vout=48
  • Ioutmax=0,83A
  • Vout ripple=0,1

The designed converter needs the following values:

  • Rfbb=1k
  • Rfbt=36,8k
  • L=42,6µ with a ripple current of 30%
  • Rsen=20 m to limit the current to 1 A
  • Co=111µ
  • ESR(Co)=12m
  • Rcomp=113k
  • Ccomp=9,38p
  • Ccomp2=18,3p

The pin EN/MODE I have powered with 2.1 V to work in BOOST mode.

I have done my circuit in Pspice and I have downloaded the model of LM3017 in the page of Texas Instruments.

The problem is that if I put the Vin higher than 12 V the system works well, but when I put the Vin lower than 12 V the Vout never reaches 48 V.

In this post I added an image of the simulation with an Iout of 0.5 A and Vin with 11V.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Adrian

  • Be sure that you do not have any resistance in your input supply on the simulation.

Also, be sure that your current limit is set high enough.

I will ask the model group if they an look at this as well.

  • Part number: LM3017

    Hi Adrian

I am trying to run the LM3017 PSPICE model and see that the startup seems to be working for VINmin case. Are you trying to run steady state specifically or were able to get the model to startup from 0V?

Can you also share your application schematic model? please highlight the place where you are setting Rsense as well.

    Thanks

    Ranjani
