BQ76PL455A: BQ76PL455A and Gas Gauge solution

Part Number: BQ76PL455A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS570LS0432, BQ34Z100-G1

I'm looking for a Gas Gauge solution to go with the BQ76PL455A. My battery is LiFePO4.

I'm using the MCU TMS570LS0432 for controlling.

I the past I was using BQ7694000DBTR for monitoring and BQ78350DBTR-R1 for Gas gauge but the BQ78350DBTR-R1 can only support for the BQ76* family and also upto 15 cells only.

So below are my question:

- Please recommend the Gas Gauge that can go with the BQ76PL455A for 16-cell battery pack.

- As my understanding the BQ7694000DBTR and BQ78350DBTR-R1 can connect together via I2C connection so what is the configuration for BQ76PL455A and its Gas Gaue part ?

I'm basically new to this so your support is very appreciated. Thank you very much.

  • Hi Minh,

Assuming your pack current will be less  than 32A,I  would  suggest  looking into the bq34z100-g1 as a gauge.  If you need higher  pack current, you  can look into scaling the current measurement, and there is  an app note available  on the website for that gauge.

The bq76PL455A communicates to the MCU through UART, while the bq34z100-g1 can communicate to the MCU via HDQ or I2C.  You would essentially have  the MCU act  as  the  "hub", with  both parts communicating  back to it. They  do not communicate  directly.

I am more familiar  with  the bq76p455A than our gauging products, though. I would suggest repeating  your  question on our gas gauging  forum - they may be able to provide you with a solution that  better fits your needs
