TPS54302: Minimum Duty Cycle

Part Number: TPS54302

Hi Team,

Would it be safe to generate ~1.2A at +1.0Vdc from a worst case input voltage of +20Vdc with this part? If there are any risks, please let me know -- thanks!

  • 1 V from 20 V requires about 5% duty cycle.  110 nsec ton min typ and 400 kHz Fsw typ give 4.4 % min duty cycle.  Fsw max gives 5.61% minimum duty cycle.  Assuming that the maximum typical on time is about 135 nsec (may be more, it is not specified), you could have minimum duty cycle of 6.89 %.  Do you care if you skip pulses?

  • Hi John,

Thanks for the response and calculations. I forwarded on and I think we're good. Follow up question is whether we have frequency domain TINA spice simulations to measure gain & phase response of TPS54302? I think the WEBENCH designer only spits out time domain simulations?
  • I don't see anything.  Even webench does not show any loop response data.  Somewhat surprising as the is a current mode control device.  Just FYI though, I do not support TPS54302 directly.  As you may know, I answer a lot of general questions on e2e.  If I know the answer it is faster just to answer the post than trying to track down someone else to answer.
