24V input on TPS23841 as PoE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23841

Hello,

Regarding to the PoE on TPS23841, my customer is asking about input range.

According to the datasheet, the input range is 21.5 V to 57 V and they will use 24V as input.

But I think that the output range of PoE is 44.0 to 57.0V.( IEEE 802.3af)

(Question)

(1) Is this device supported 24V input as PoE application?

(2) if it’s available, how it is supported?

Regards,

Tao_2199

  • Hi Tao,

If the input is 24V, the output voltage on the port will also be 24V. If customer requires 24V as input, it is already non IEEE compliant.  For standard PoE applications, the input voltage and output port voltage should be 44V to 57V(for Type 1) and 48V to 57V(for Type 2).

TPS23841 can support 24V input and the outpu voltage will be 24V.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Penny,

    Thank you for quick reply.

    As additional questions,
I think that all characteristics on datasheet is at Vin=48V.
Do you have characteristics at Vin=24V?
Or is not it guaranteed at Vin=24V as TI?

  • Hi Tao,

I checked with our test team. We don't have ATE test data for Vin=24V but system/apps/design teams did validate the performance at low input voltage(21.5V). Thanks.

    Best regards,
