TLV62130: Vout Max Spec

Part Number: TLV62130
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62130, TPS62135

Hi E2E,

My customer would like to know if he can set the output of the TLV62130 to ~5.2V.  We know that the max spec if 5V but we'd like to know the implications of setting this higher.  Will it break something or will the part become less accurate or something else?

The TPS62130 is rated up to 6V.  What's the difference between the TPS and TLV?

Thanks,

-Sam

  • Setting the output voltage above 5V is outside of the D/S spec and therefore not recommended. The TPS62130 should be used for this. The TLV62130 will output 5.2V, but this is outside of its specification (electrical parameters are not specified at this operating point).

There is also the new TPS62135, which offers smaller size, higher current, tighter output accuracy, etc.

The TLV family are designed for cost sensitive applications, usually with a reduced specification. You can compare the electrical tables of these two devices and will find that the TPS62130 is specified over the full Tj range (not just Ta), with a tighter output accuracy, with maximum specs for current limit and Rdson, etc.
  • Chris,

Thanks for the quick and detailed response!
