TPS563209: Output Current vs Ambient Temperature

Part Number: TPS563209

Hi,

We got a question from customer about TPS563209.
Could you help us?

[Question]
There is Iout vs Ta characteristics in datasheet figure 16. What does the line represent on this figure?
Why does the output current be reduced in high temperature?

Best Regards,
tateo

  • The lines represents output current vs ambient temperature. Below about Ta = 58 to 68 deg. C., the TPS563209 can output the full rated 3 A current. Above that ambient temperature, the IC junction temperature will reach the maximum junction temperature of 150 C. At a lesser output current than 3 A. That curve is from the EVM board. There is no output power dissipated on the EVM, only the internal IC and related component dissipation. Your actual current capability will greatly depend on PCB design and nearby surrounding circuits.
