charging multiple series cells- charger IC output: per cell vs single ouput for pack

hi everybody,

please consider a Li Ion battery pack containing for example 2 cells in series.
some charger ICs have an output for each cell and some ICs have an output for the pack.

please explain about this?

it means some devices don't make cell balancing.

so i understand cell balancing is not essential for Li Ion batteries.

1-cell charger is designed for 1-cell end equipment. Multi-cell charger is designed for multi-cell end equipment. Their VBAT is different, and for different applications.

correction to my first post: there is no charger IC with several outputs.

Protection ICs have balancing feature which have output per cell.

Hello Rasool,

Yeah, charger itself doesn't have balancing feature, you could realize it by other methods, like add gauge, or design simple external circuit(detect each cell's voltage, if one cell's voltage is too high, control circuit determine discharge the cell)
