TPS7A8300: Input supply decap

Part Number: TPS7A8300

HI,

I want to know how much decoupling capacitor value i can put at input of TPS7A8300RGWR.

I am giving supply from switching regulator to this LDO.

In the datasheet it is mention that 10UF capacitor is ok at input side but if i use 47UF and 100UF at input side then what will be consequences?

Is there any guideline for decoupling capacitor ?

Thanks

Ashutosh

  • Hi Ashutosh,

For the input capacitor, you can put as much as you like. The minimum value given is to support the load transient response graphs in the datasheet. I would have to see if we have a clear guideline for minimum input capacitance as this would be a function of drop-out and load transient. For example; if Vin is 3.3V and Vout is 1.8V, then maybe you would not require so much input capacitance for a 1A/us load transient. Whereas if VIn is 2.8V and Vout is 2.5V, then you may want to have a higher CIN to support the load transient.

    Does this help?

    Regards,
