Hello Sir/Madam,

I am going to design Integrated battery manager (battery charger + Gas gauge + protection)  circuit for (2S - 8.4V) Li-Ion batteries. I have gone through application circuits. I have some doubts on same. Parameters for the design given below

Adaptor voltage range 12 to 20V

System voltage - 8.4V (Battery Voltage)

Charging current - <2A

System current - 7A @ 8.4V.

2S Li-Ion batteries - 8.4V.

Can I use BQ40Z60 ?  If not, please suggest any Integrated Battery Manager IC for my application.

  • The bq40z60 should be able to support these requirements. You could also consider the bq28z610 and an external charger. The bq28z610 is a 2s gauge / protector. Or, you could consider the bq40z50-R1 and an external charger. The bq40z50-R1 is a 1 to 4S gauge / protector. Layout will be more flexible using the chipsets with the external chargers.
  • Hello Thomas,

This is reagrding BQ34Z100 Gas gauge , actually this is for 1S, 2- 4S , >4S cells (Li) configuration. For single Li ion Cell , Bat voltage connected directly to BAT pin of IC. If I use 2-4S cells then , I need to use resistor divider. Why I cant use Single Cell Gas gauge like "BQ27220 , BQ27320 ,BQ27426" with voltage divider for 2-4S configuration cells ?
