TPS61161 and some basic questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61161, TPS61165

Hello,

i m designing a new board with an Display from EDT.

I want to use the TPS61161 (this ic is although on the develepment board AT91SAM9G45-EKES)

Technical data display:

Power Supply for LED Backlight:  IF=40mA VF MIN=28V TYP=30V MAX=32V

Can I attach this Backlight to the IC?

What about the temperature compensation?

Handle the ic TPS61161 the temperature compensation?

Sorry i didnt find the right part in the datasheet.

Some link or page Number could be helpful.

im new at desinging an hardware for displays

thx for your reply

  • I need bit more information to help.  First, what is the input voltage? Second, is this a single string of LEDs or multiple strings in parallel?  Also, I do not understand your comment about temperature compensation.

  • Hello,

    ive attached the necessary information.

it is a dual string but at the connector (pin 35 and pin36)  is only two pole (anode and cathode)

    i mean with temperature compensation:

i thought temperature compensation is required (for all backlights):

if ambient temperature increase, the led current need to decrease. See diagram @ the first post, or im wrong?

  • So pin 36 ties VLB2-K2 and VBL1-K1 together? That is okay and the TPS61161 should be able to power this string of LEDs, assuming the input voltage to the TPS61161 is high enough.  If the input voltage is not high enough, then you could move to the TPS61165 IC.  Regardless, the currents through each string will not be split evenly.   That may be okay if the LEDs are inter-mingled behind the display.  Regarding temperature compensation, our IC, by itself will not provide temperature compensation.   You would need to provide a signal to the TPS61161's CTRL pin to dim the part as needed.
