TPS65132: Current capability

Hi,

We got a question from customer about TPS65132.
Could you help us?

[Question]
When the output current is over current capability, what kind of protection will it be enabled?
Output current is limited to current capability or turn-off the switching?
They need to output over current capability at a moment. So they has consern about the behavior of the device.

Hello Tateo,

The device monitors the current through the PMOS (HS) of the SYNC FET. If this hits the current limit then the boost stops switching.
How much output current do they need and for what time period? For what end application is this for?

Thank you for your reply. Their condition is under the below.

Device: TPS65132W (Tablet Mode)
Vin=3.3V
Vneg=-5.4V
Ineg=-100mA
Period=less than 1msec

They can only use QFN package. So they have to select TPS65132W.

Hello Tateo,

What is the normal load they have on VNEG for most of the time? Is the load on VNEG reaching 100 mA during startup or after?
Also what are the values of VPOS and IPOS?

Sorry for the delay. This problem is solved. If Vneg rise and fall time is not satisfied their requirement, rush current might be occured.
I suggested to add Vneg output capacitor 10uF*2u. They are expected to meet their requirement.
