CSD18541F5: Absolute Maximum Rating for Vgs

Part Number: CSD18541F5
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: STRIKE

Hi,

Could you please give me your advice about the following questions ?

Q1. Actual value for absolute maximum rating
The absolute maximum rating for Vgs is +/- 20V, but please tell me the actual value(or the distribution data).

Q2. Conditions leading to destruction
If 30V is instantaneously applied to Vgs, will this part be easily destroyed ?
For instance, that pulse width of 30V is ~100 ns.

Best regards,
Kato

  • Kato,
As far as distribution goes, we do not have that data like we would for the BVDSS of the FET. It is not a hard breakdown per se, but rather a condition at which operating above the max Vgs of the FET could cause long term damage to the gate.

Every FET's Vgs is tested at FT with a 20V hammer test to make sure it can survive the event, but that's it.

As for the shorter pulse duration, I have reached out to our technologists for comment. Hopefully I will have a response soon.
  • Kato,
The designers had this to say regarding a 100ns 30Vgs strike.

Such an event probably won't kill the part. But if the event is reoccurring in the design, each time it goes above 20Vgs could be degrading to the gate of the device. So if the event repeats frequently, it could have a severe impact on the long time reliability of the device.
  • Hi Brett-san,

Thank you for your support and the information.
I understood and will contact you if getting additional questions from our customer.

    Best regards,
