LM5165: About using ferrite beads

Part Number: LM5165

Hi,

I am thinking about reducing the ripple of the output voltage of the LM5165.
When ferrite beads are placed behind the output capacitor, will this ferrite bead affect the COT control?

Best Regards,

  • Hello Kaji,

Using ferrite bead on output for additional filtering requires careful consideration since bead performance will depend on bead rating, load currents as well as temperature ratings of ferrite beads. When using ferrite beads for noise filtering it is recommended to use beads at about 20% of their rated currents since bead inductance will decrease significantly with DC bias. Also reduction in inductance can affect effectiveness of bead and its function as filter. In order to provide stable and reliable operation it is recommended that system designer takes in consideration points above and properly dimension ferrite bead for the particular use case.

    Best regards
