I am using an LM317A regulator in a TO-220 package. It is being powered by 28 VDC and has a 243 ohm resistor in series between the input voltage and the device. At the input of the device is a 36 volt zener diode. The device is configured as a 20 mA current source. Will the device be damaged if I plug the circuit card into a powered backplane?
