TPS54302: IC die temperature 131º in WEBENCH simulation, Iout=3A Vout=5 or 3.3V. Is it suitable for 3A?

Part Number: TPS54302

When I simulate the device TPS54302 in WEBENCH I get 131º with these conditions:

Iout=3A

Vout=5V

I think it is a lot of temperature, I think the encapsulate is too small and has not a termal pad.

MY QUESTION IS:

Is TPS54302 suitable to implement a DCDC from 12-24V to 5 or 3,3V with continous 3A?

Datasheet says "Integrated 85-mΩ and 40-mΩ MOSFETs for 3-A,Continuous Output Current" but WEBENCH simulation results in hight temperature.

Thanks,

Diego.

  • I get 126 deg C, but that is still rather high. TPS54302 is rated for operating junction temperature up to 150 C abs. max. and 125 C recommended, so you are very close to the limit. TPS54302 does not have any thermal pad so I am not surprised the junction temperatures can get rather high. Temperature decreases a lot if you lower the maximum input voltage.
