TPS63050: Input oscillations when in soft-start charging a super capacitor

Part Number: TPS63050

A 5 volts switching regulator feeds the input of the buck-boost TPS63050. When activated to charge a super capacitor of 1.5F, in soft-start mode (PWM), the input goes to 6V with traces of oscillations.

When the soft-start part is over, it ends. I tried to filter the input up to 220uF, without success. The input, through a switch, can come from a lithium battery. The effect is smaller with it.

I would rather not remove the soft start function as the inrush current is limit for the circuit.

Thanks,

Julien Lauzon

  • Hi Julien,

would you please share full schematic(including buck converter, switch and buck boost) and layout?
Do you see the same issue if the TPS63050 is supply directly from laboratory power supply (not from the battery or 5V buck converter)?

    Best regards
