LM5116 or LM5161 Application Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5161, LM5116

Hi Sir,

I have project need meet as below spec, so we survey LM5116 or LM5161.

Could help us comment for two device which suitable my application? Thanks.

Input range 60VDC - 96VDC (request test 96VDC Vin)

Output range 52VDC / 0.65A

Looks our competitor LTC3707 separate VCC and VIN, It's very safety for 96VDC test.

  • I think both of these two parts should work for your application. The main difference is the LM5116 is a controller and requires external power FETs. The LM5161 is a synchronous converter, which integrates both power FETs inside the device. It will be easier for design and layout.
Please go to the ti.com product page for both products and simulate the design to see which works better for you.

The LM5161 has internal LDO to generate control voltage VCC.
The LM5116 also generates VCC internally. Although it has options of tie the VCCx to Vout to bypass VCC, but VCCx abs max is 16V. It cannot be used with Vout = 52V in your application.
