LM46002: Bootstrap capacitor value sensitivity

Part Number: LM46002

I see the recommended bootstrap capacitor value for the LM46002 is 0.47uF. How critical is this value? I'd like to use a 1uF capacitor instead to reduce BOM line count since I will already be using 1uF caps in other parts of the design, but no other 0.47uF caps. How will this change alter the operation of the LM46002? Thanks.

  • Hi Seth,

Moderate sensitivty, for your application 1uF should be okay. Typically an order of magnitude higher boot cap values result in longer boot charge times affecting the min off time and hence drop out performance, but the increase in your case isn't enough to affect perfromance.

    Thanks,
