Wireless & Wired Charging 2S Battery

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ500215, BQ51025, BQ24170

Hi team,

We are interested in charging a 2S battery wirelessly with the option of having an auxiliary wired input as well. It seems like the BQ51025 will be a good choice if we pair it with the BQ500215. Is there a recommended charger that we can use in conjunction with this that will allow for the auxiliary input?

Regards,

Akash Patel

  • Hi Akash
A 2S Li-Ion battery charger that could work with the bq51025 is the bq24170 or 72. Both units are stand-alone chargers, no MCU required.
The Auxiliary input is provided by bq51025, see EVM Q1 ckt that will used the AD / AD_EN signals.

  • Hi Bill,

Thanks for the response. It looks like the datasheet for the bq51025 isn't working from the product page (perhaps we can get that fixed).

Can you review why the bq24170/2 are good choices (vs. our other multi cell chargers) in this application?

Also, the 2S battery configuration is only supported by the 10W proprietary protocol, correct? We would not be able to have Qi charging for a 2S battery?

  • Can you review why the bq24170/2 are good choices (vs. our other multi cell chargers) in this application?--Most of the other mult cell battery chargers will require and mcu. This device is a stand alone

Also, the 2S battery configuration is only supported by the 10W proprietary protocol, correct?---Yes
We would not be able to have Qi charging for a 2S battery?---Right, no Qi option on this unit.
