BQ20Z95: BQ20Z95 - CHG FET opens during sleep

Part Number: BQ20Z95

Dear all,

I have an issue with BQ20Z95 setup, while using the BQ24171 charger.

when the IC goes into sleep (no current flow and comm line is down --> sleep mode), I can notice that the CFET goes off.

so in a situation when I'm fully discharge, I cannot have the BQ24171, which is waiting to see some voltage in-front of him, restart the battery.

bq24171 is keep doing "hick-ups" and never see a voltage, unless re-connect the communication line.

in BQ40Z50-R1, we have a SLEEPCHG flag in configuration, do we have the same thing in BQ20Z95?

is there a way to go around this problem, other than cancel sleep mode?

thanks

  • Hi all,

so this is the answer I was looking for....

    from tech manual:

On entry to sleep, if [NR] = 0, the CHG and DSG FETs are turned off, and the ZVCHG FET is turned off
(if used) regardless of [NRCHG] setting. If [NR] = 1, the CHG FET is turned off, and the ZVCHG FET is
turned off (if used). However, if [NRCHG] is set then the CHG FET remains on.

so, since I'm not using ZVCHG pin, NR=1 and NRCHG = 1 will keep the CHG FET on during sleep.

    thanks, Ran
