100V Buck Converter

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC1823A, UCC28700, LM5085

Hi, I'm looking to design a DC/DC converter that takes 115V to 165V input and steps it down to 100V, 10A output.  Are there any reference designs or application notes I can leverage from?

Or similarly, any suggestions on taking the same input range of 115V to 165V and stepping it down to 100V, 2A output?  Plan would be to use 5 of these smaller converters as opposed to the one.

I've been considering using the PWM controller UC1823A in a buck converter topology or even the UCC28700 if possible, but would be fine with using any device that is recommended.

Thanks, - Jim

  • Hi Jim,

The only thing I can think of is the following concept, this maybe OK for the 2A output. Not so suitable for the 10A out?  The LM5085 is a pch Gate drive which derives its supply from Vin.  You are using current mirrors for level shifting the output voltage from referenced Ground to Vin then level shifting again to a floating Gnd (Ref of the IC) to generate the FB voltage, The floating Gnd of the IC is generated using the emitter follower circuit using a Zener.
