BQ25890: Thermistor Sharing with the BQ27542

Part Number: BQ25890
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27542-G1

Hi there, I have designed a battery charging and gauging solution for a custom battery pack using TI's BQ25890 charger and TI's BQ27542-G1 gas gauge. I have one NTC on the battery pack and would like to share the same between the two devices. At first thought, this seems to throw off the bias for the gas gauge as it is pulled up to a 2V5 rail while the charger has a 6V VREGN. Is there a way to go about doing this?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ganesan M.

  • Ganesan,

Unfortunately, there is no way to share 1 thermistor between the charger and gauge due to the biasing problem that you identified.  You will need to either a second thermistor or use a resistor divider to bias the charger's TS pin and rely solely on the gauge thermistor.
