BQ28Z610: Learning Cycle with GDK

I'm familiar with TI's BQ27542, and am now working on a new project using the BQ28Z610. My question is, when doing a learning cycle, is the process identical for the two products? To create the learning cycle, I should use TI's Gauge Development Kit and the BQ28Z610EVM, yes?

Also, is it possible to brick the BQ28Z610 when programming from a golden image (like it is for the BQ27542)?

Hi,
Gauge Development Kit support only single cell gauges and if you use bq28z610 for 2 series packs, you may no t use Gauge Development Kit.
Of course you can program bq28z610 from a golden image

Will it brick the gauge if the programming fails?

Though I did not receive a reply regarding whether programming will brick the gauge, I think it's safe to assume that's the case with any of TI's Flash-based parts. Always order more than one evaluation module when working with them!

Hi Adam,

If programming fails, you will likely brick the gauge. If ordering the EVM, instead of ordering 2, just order a few of the ICs so you can replace a bricked device on your EVM if it fails. That's a cheaper alternative.
