TPS2400: Choosing between TPS2400, TPS2490 or LM5060 or LM5069

Part Number: TPS2400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2490, LM5069, LM5060, LM5060-Q1

Hello, I am working on a board for automotive (after market) at 12V (nominal).

It will draw around 5-6 A  current.

I want to use a protection IC for load dump and over-voltage and I am not sure which is the best for my application.

- TPS2400 looks simple and is cheap but I saw on another thread that it is old and not recommended for such an application (though I would prefer it)

- TPS2490 or LM5060 or LM5069 are other options that I am considering but I am not sure if they are suitable for my application

Thanks,

Mihai

  • MiHai,

Does your customer require Q100 parts ?

If so, your options are the LM5060-Q1, LM74610, and the LM5050-Q1.  There are apps for both these parts to provide protection in a ISO 7637 Environment. The particulars of the customer application will determine which solution is best.

If MP is 2018 or beyond then the LM74700 may be a good solution but it is still in development.

For the TPS2400 to work at 12 V it needs to float and I believe there is an ap for that in the ds.

TI Solutions begin on slide 45 of the attachment. Before that is all about automotive transient sources and ISO-7637 specs.FAE_summit_2017.pptx

  • Hello Jim,

    Thanks for your reply.

There is no need for Q100.

    Best regards
