WEBENCH® Tools/TPS25942A: WEBENCH proposed passive parts have too big or too small packages

Hi,

I would like to ask one question related to the design of TPS25942/4A part. For that I used WEBENCH online TI tool:

I am surprised about proposed passive parts package. All resistors have a 0805 package while CdVdT capacitor has a 0201 one. I would like to avoid too big packages like 0805 and also to avoid too small packages like 0201. My intention is to use 0402 only.

When I look at resistors, they are all in 30k – 500k range. Dissipated power should not be an issue.

Can you explain why the tool is suggesting such big or small packages? Is there a technical reason? Or is it only a limitation of the tool database?

Hi Nathanaël Sunier,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
I will inform the concerned team to look into it. In fact we do recommend 0603, 0402 packages for passives as power dissipation is not issue here. On product EVM, we used 0603 package only.

Hi Rakesh,

This part will be used as an hot swap controller for a telecom line card. This line card will contains 4 optical SFP 1Gb/s ports, providing PTP time stamping and SyncE reference clock. The full product, including all cards is basically a frequency and time reference for telecom.
